Saturday night saw the Bees head up to the Fens to take on high flying Peterborough Phantoms. With Frankie Bakrlik suspended the Bees welcomed back Callum Best to the line-up. In goal for the Bees was Alex Mettam, where-as Euan King took up position between the pipes for Peterborough.

Refereeing the game was William Hewitt, ably assisted by Jason Earl and Mariusz Kowal.

Shaun Thompson had a chance early on in the first period after good work by Alex Barker and Josh Martin taking on the defence, but while taking his shot his stick shattered from a defensive check. The Bees pressed high up the ice and kept pressure on the Phantoms defence at every opportunity. Thompson and Barker combined well again with the former setting up the latter with a lovely dropped pass but was denied by King. The game progressed fairly evenly for both teams but with the visitors with more zone time, mostly due to their aggressive forecheck.

The second period saw both teams pick up their games yet further, with each goalie being called into action early on. Following a scramble in front of the Peterborough net, Josh Martin got checked to the ice, yet picked up a penalty in one of several unusual calls by the officials. The deadlock was broken on 27 minutes through Alex Barker while on the powerplay with a soft shot that snuck its way under King, but it was nothing other than the Bees deserved. Half way through the period and Mettam was called into action with several big saves to maintain the Bees lead. While Mettam was stopping everything coming his way, King and the Phantoms defence were preventing the Bracknell forwards getting through. With 3 and a half minutes left on the clock the home team drew level through Nathan Pollard after Mettam had made an initial save from Darius Pliskauskas and the rebound was tapped in.

Into the third and the Phantoms attacked from the off. But following a big pad save from Mettam, the Bees went up the other end of the ice with Shaun Thompson who slotted home a beauty of a shot in the top corner, giving King no chance. Both Danny Ingoldsby and Callum Best had great chances but King was equal to them. As ever, Carl Thompson worked ridiculously hard all night, back-checking, skating hard and challenging for every puck. His work ethic was clearly rubbing off as Harvey Stead too was producing one of his best performances of the season. Peterborough got yet another strange powerplay, as Hewitt called Danny Ingoldsby for holding, yet it was the Bees forward who was hauled to the ice. After coming back on Ingoldsby struck the post, beating King to his right. The Phantoms drew the game level late in the period on the powerplay with a slapshot from the point that went in hard and low and through a screen of players. The Bees were the stronger of the two teams going in to the final 3 minutes but just couldn't find the killer touch to win the game in regulation.

So into overtime and the Phantoms had a lot of the early possession. But with end to end chances for both teams the Bees had the better of them. James Galazzi coming close with a beautiful move and Josh Tetlow almost putting away a lovely passing move up the ice. Shaun Thompson had the final word of the overtime period, taking a shot with less than a second on the clock, but it was padded away by King.

The game was down to penalty shots and unfortunately for the travelling Bees, it was the Phantoms who came out winners despite a wonderful penalty by Thompson, Peterborough scorers were Padalek and Pliskauskas.

It may have just been 1 point for the Bees, but they can leave that game knowing they left everything they had on that ice. A true team effort, 100% commitment, energy, passion and desire. No fan could ask for more from their team following that performance.
