Match report by Ashley Willitt

With no Saturday game the Bees traveled into London to face Streatham, fresh after their 2-0 victory over the Basingstoke Bison the night before. The Bees were hoping that they had put all of their energy into that game, but that was going to be far from the truth.

Returning from his suspension was Bees star foward Frankie Bakrlik and also added to the line-up was Carl Thompson, signed as injury cover for brother Shaun.  Refereeing the game was William Hewitt, with Mariusz Kowal and Vladislav Myrsikok on the lines. Starting goal tenders were Alex Mettam for the Bees and Mathew Colclough for Streatham.

The Bees were quick out of the blocks at the start of the first period with an instant chemistry between Carl Thompson and Bakrlik providing an opportunity for Josh Martin, but the Bees forward couldn't find a way past Colclough. With Bakrlik being marked constantly by Streatham players he was finding it hard to find space to work, he did however get a couple of huge slap-shots on goal, but were well saved by the Streatham goalie.  At the 8 minute mark, some great back checking by Alex Barker released the puck to Callum Best who passed to George Norcliffe who  squeezed it between the post and the left pad of Colclough to make it 1-0 to the Bees. Some further chances for the Bees came close, but Streatham drew the game level on 14 minutes through former MK lightning defenceman Michael Farn. Following a couple of very soft looking tripping penalties the Bees saw out the final few minutes of the period a man down but nothing further happened.

Into the second period and Streatham had a clear game plan to frustrate the Bees players, especially Bakrlik, marking him closely throughout. Just minutes in and the Bees couldn't clear their zone with the puck bouncing around several players. It was Ryan Watt who gathered the puck and on the spin, flicked the puck high over Mettam to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Bracknell looked keen to get back on the board as quickly as they could and Martin almost did that following great work by Bakrlik, but the young Brit shot the puck high and wide. Halfway through the period and just as a Bees powerplay had come to an end, some solid one-touch passing around the net culminated in a great combination between Ben Ealey-Newman and Jared Lane with James Galazzi finishing off past Colclough making it 2-2. Unfortunately, just 13 seconds later, straight from the face-off, Streatham came right back at the Bees and found themselves on a 2 on 1 with Ryan Watt getting his second of the night. Into the final few minutes of the period, a delayed penalty call on Matt Foord gave the home side the advantage, as Colclough went off for a 6th out skater and after a big save from Mettam, the rebound fell straight to Alex Sampford to shoot into a gaping net.

With just 2 goals to make up in the final period the Bees looked distinctly uninterested. Little intensity or impetus meant that the first half of the 3rd was gone before they seemed to step up a gear. Wasting a couple of powerplays with very few chances, Streatham didn't have to do a lot to try and see out the game. However, one bright spark to the game was new signing Thompson, who was working hard on every shift. His work down the right of the ice created a chance in front of the goalie, which allowed Martin the opportunity to punch the puck home and give Bracknell the prospect of getting something out the game. With a minute and a half left on the clock and a face-off in the Streatham end, Bracknell pulled Mettam for a 6th skater. Unfortunately, despite winning the face-off, a spinning puck was mis-controlled and Ryan Webb gathered it, flew up the ice and scored in the empty net, taking the game to 5-3 and ultimately ending any chance of a Bees comeback.

Man of the match awards went to Ryan Watt for the home side and to Jared Lane for the Bees.
