Match report by Ashley Willitt

With the second night of cup action against the Telford Tigers, it was the Bees turn to travel to Shropshire in a game that saw much more action in another tightly fought contest.

The evenings team stripes were referee Dan Boardman and linesmen Jason Lambly and Robert Pullar. With Alex Mettam in goal for the visiting Bees and Denis Bell for the Tigers. Both teams were still without key players in Jonathan Weaver for the Tigers and Frankie Bakrlik, Shaun Thompson and player/coach Scott Spearing for the Bees.

It was the Bees net minder who was the busier of the two in the first period and early on had to squeeze his legs tightly to prevent the puck slipping through and ended up on his back with a small scrum around him. Halfway through the period and on a Telford attack, Luke Jackson was bowled over by a clean body check and with the puck coming free to Joe Miller he placed the puck low and hard past Mettam. With the Bees top scorers missing, the other forwards were given the opportunity to step up. Both Steve Osman and Josh Martin seemed keen to prove their worth with the latter battling hard all night and the two working well together, making Bell work for the night in the Telford net. However, the home side doubled their lead making it 2-0 through Dale White following a simple play off the boards between Warren Tait and Danny Rose.

The second period started in a similar fashion to the way the first ended. With the Tigers on top they took just over a minute to make the score 3-0. With a very nice move between Joe Miller and Adam Taylor, it was the latter of the two who finished past the Bee nettie. That goal seemed to eventually spur Bracknell into life and, halfway through the period a Jan Bendik slap-shot was skillfully tipped past the Tigers goalie giving him no chance and the Bees a goal on the board. Just over a minute later and Steve Osman pulled the game back to within one after some scrappy chances around the Tigers goal, he managed to find some space at the back post and shoot into a gaping net. At the other end of the ice Mettam was keeping the Bees in it with some huge saves against Corey Goodison and Jason Silverthorn,

The Bees didn't want the second period to end, however were doing their damnedest to bring their intensity and fight into the final 20 minutes. While on a powerplay, the Bees struggled to get any serious efforts on goal, however just as it was ending, a couple of Bendik shot were followed up by Danny Ingoldsby who brought a big diving save by Bell. Telford extended their lead moments later after a mistake on the boards by young defenceman Luke Jackson. With no help close by he gave up the puck cheaply and unfortunately to Telford top scorer Silverthorn who made it 4-2.

The Bees were handed a lifeline on 46 minutes when Telford were assessed a bench minor for delay of the game. With the Bees passing the puck smoothly around the net and with just seconds left on the clock, Bendik shot high and hard and beat Bell bringing the Bees back to within one. With 10 minutes left on the clock Mettam produced the save of the night, stacking the pads for an unbelievable save and keeping the Bees in the game. With the clock counting down Bracknell pulled Mettam for a 6th skater and despite a valiant effort, including a face-off win followed by a shot with just 3 seconds remaining, were unable to get the equaliser.

A great game, played by two hard working and skillful teams was enjoyed by a noisy and full Telford ice centre, kudos to the Tigers who improved their position in the cup group, but the Bees will need to regroup and reset to face Invicta in what will definitely be another tough battle.
