Weekend Preview - Week 17

posted 4 Jan 2018, 02:14 by john slater

For the seventeenth weekend of regular season action the Bracknell Bees take on two of their local rivals, the Swindon Wildcats and the Basingstoke Bison, in NIHL Division 1 South league matches.   The action gets underway on Saturday 6th January at the Link Centre in Swindon (6.15pm faceoff) before returning to The Hive on Sunday 7th January (6pm faceoff).

The Bees and Wildcats have already met four times this season already in the National Cup.   The Wiltshire side having picked up two wins in first two games but in the Bees last game of 2017 they ran out 7-2 winners at The Hive and in their first game of 2018 it was the Wildcats that ran out two goal winners in an action packed game in Swindon.   With the rivalry that has built up over recent seasons between these two sides the games are sure to be tight and physical matches and the Bees will be looking to start their 2018 league games with a bang!   Having picked up a victory on home ice in their last home game, at The Hive, the Bees will be looking to add to that win with the National Cup campaign having ended and able to now focus on the league.   The Wildcats had only lost two of their last eleven games before the couple of Cup games against the Bees either side of the New Year and having recently sealed top spot in the National Cup Group D and sitting one place ahead of the Bees in the National League Division 1 the Swindon side will be sure to present a tough opposition for the Bees in league action too.

The Basingstoke Bison, another of the Bees local rivals, although in the top two positions in the league at present, have struggled of late having lost three of their last four games.   The Bees and Bison have met five times already this season in four cup and one league match ups.   In the four cup games the Bees picked up one win and an overtime loss with the Bison winning the other two games as well as the single league game between the sides so far this season.   The Hampshire side are sure to prove a tough opposition for the Bees at The Hive this weekend.   With a large number of players on each side having iced for both clubs and with the additional incentive of local bragging rights up for grabs games between these two sides are usually physical and edgy encounters and games not to be missed.

We hope to see a good home support from the Bees fans and look forward to welcoming the Basingstoke Bison fans to The Hive and with that in mind we have some key points for new visiting fans to please note for Bees games:
  • There is an “away” section in Block 2 downstairs where away fans tend to congregate and sit together however you are welcome to purchase tickets through the rink reception on the match night or by calling 01344 789000 for seats in the upper balcony area.   You will need to specify at the time of purchase.
  • Most of the balcony blocks have a large amount of season ticket seats within them that are already reserved so please be aware of this when taking your seat, if you are sitting in a season ticket holder seat without the ticket for that seat you will be asked to move to the correct seat.
  •  It should be noted too, that due to the license held by the rink, that although alcohol is sold in The Bees Knees bar it can only be taken out to the seated balcony area and is not permitted downstairs within the rink at all.
  • The rink is also a no smoking building so you will need to leave by the front door during period breaks if you wish to smoke and you will need your ticket to regain entry.
  • The other general rink rules such as no flash photography, waiting for a break in play before moving around the rink, no foul or abusive language etc.… are, as with all rinks, also in place.
  • Our Supporters Club run a merchandise stall in the main foyer and upstairs at the back of Block 5 (opposite the bar) there is also the Supporters Club shop.   Merchandise, programmes, 50/50 tickets etc. are all available at these two locations on a match nights
