Weekend Preview - Week 9

posted 9 Nov 2017, 12:47 by john slater

The ninth weekend of regular season action for the Bracknell Bees sees them once again with a two game weekend, both this time National Cup Group D games.   The weekend is a double header against the Telford Tigers and it starts with a rare Saturday home game at The Hive, 6pm face-off, before the two teams face off again in Telford on Sunday evening, 6pm faceoff.

Last weekend saw the Bees pick up four more league points when they defeated the Cardiff Fire 8-1 at The Hive on Saturday before coming away from Gillingham the following evening with a penalty shoot out victory over the Invicta Dynamos.

After an off-season of re-structuring, both for the league and the Tigers, the Telford outfit are now plying their trade in the NIHL Div1 North (Moralee) and are currently in second place in the league.   With nine wins and two loses from their opening eleven league games they started the league campaign impressively.   In Group D of the National Cup the Tigers won their first two fixtures (both against Basingstoke Bison) but have lost their last three (against Swindon twice & Basingstoke once).   Of late though the Tigers have been on a run of bad results with only one win in their last nine games in all competitions, against the Solway Sharks.

The Bees, with three points from four games in the Cup so far, will be looking to continue their impressive form of late home at The Hive on Saturday before making the trip to Telford on Sunday in the search of a road win in the Cup to add to their Cup victory on the road in Basingstoke.  The Tigers however will not be taken lightly or underestimated as they boast an impressive roster with a blend of youth and experience.

There are a number of special events at this Saturdays home Cup game at The Hive and they include:
  • As part of our Army Benevolent Fund efforts, we are delighted to welcome piper Iona Scotson (nee MacDonald) who will be performing the National Anthem, and some other tunes, pre-game.
  • The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF) is one of the Bees chosen charities and for this game the team will be wearing special edition commemorative Passchendaele jerseys with a collection being made throughout the game to go to the ABF. Soldiers from Sword Company Army Training Centre Pirbright will be doing the collection on behalf of the fantastic cause, please give generously.
  • We are also holding a raffle for a unique ABF named and numbered special edition commemorative Passchendaele jersey – if you missed out on the Own & Loan opportunity for these special jerseys then make sure you see the usual raffle ticket sellers to enter this raffle and the Shirt Off a Back raffle to give yourself a chance to win!
  • We are also pleased to welcome the Bracknell Fusion Adult Synchronised Ice Skating team to The Hive, they will be providing period break entertainment at tonight’s game and we thank them for their support.

We are pleased to announce that this Saturday evenings home game versus the Telford Tigers will also be streamed Live from The Hive with the help of several of our media partners.   See HERE for full details.   The live stream will be hosted by our partners at Ice Hockey Live UK and you can read more about them and find more information on the stream for this Saturdays game at the Ice Hockey Live UK website www.icehockeylive.co.uk.   You can purchase your stream ticket at the following direct link HERE

We hope to see a good home support from the Bees fans and look forward to welcoming the Telford Tigers fans to The Hive and with that in mind we have some key points for new visiting fans to please note for Bees games:
  • There is an “away” section in Block 2 downstairs where away fans tend to congregate and sit together however you are welcome to purchase tickets through the rink reception on the match night or by calling 01344 789000 for seats in the upper balcony area.   You will need to specify at the time of purchase.
  • Most of the balcony blocks have a large amount of season ticket seats within them that are already reserved so please be aware of this when taking your seat, if you are sitting in a season ticket holder seat without the ticket for that seat you will be asked to move to the correct seat.
  •  It should be noted too, that due to the license held by the rink, that although alcohol is sold in The Bees Knees bar it can only be taken out to the seated balcony area and is not permitted downstairs within the rink at all.
  • The rink is also a no smoking building so you will need to leave by the front door during period breaks if you wish to smoke and you will need your ticket to regain entry.
  • The other general rink rules such as no flash photography, waiting for a break in play before moving around the rink, no foul or abusive language etc.… are, as with all rinks, also in place.
  • Our Supporters Club run a merchandise stall in the main foyer and upstairs at the back of Block 5 (opposite the bar) there is also the Supporters Club shop.   Merchandise, programmes, 50/50 tickets etc. are all available at these two locations on a match nights
